A Successful Science Experiment.
What a busy term it has been and it's already the end of Week 5. Team Moana have been really busy getting their heads around our science unit based on the classification of life forms. We learned that living things all carry out seven processes and that you can remember them by using the acronym MRS GREN. This stands for Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition.
We decided to do an experiment to see if plants really do respire. The scientists say that plants take carbon dioxide from the air, use it inside their cells to grow, and release some oxygen back into the air as they don't need all of it.
We tested this hypothesis by putting leaves in warm water for a few hours. If it was true, we should see little bubbles of oxygen forming on the surface of the leaves. It worked!!!! It was very cool!!
Ariana took this very good photo using an iPad so now we have proof that our experiment worked. We don't know why the bubbles are only on one half of the leaf. That might need some more investigation.

Kia ora Team Moana my name is Honekai. I go to Kawakawa primary school. I am a year 8 in Nga Rau Rangatira. It is really awesome to see that you guys are learning about science on plants. Also really interesting that the bubbles only go on one side of the leaf. Maybe next time you could do steps on how you did it. So my class can follow.
ReplyDeleteGuten Tag Team Moana! My name is Mase from Kawakawa Primary School. I'll have to say, this is a very interesting post about science. I hadn't known that plants take carbon dioxide in their cells and produce little oxygen bubbles. Overall, I really do enjoy this post and it's got me thinking quite a bit about how biology really works. Anyway, Thanks for reading and I'll blog ya later!
ReplyDeletePS: Here is my blog: http://kpsmasev.blogspot.co.nz
Hi Team Moana my name is Braxton and I am from Kawakawa Primary.
ReplyDeleteI really liked reading this blog post because I never knew you could see little oxygen bubbles coming out of leaves that is so cool.
I was wondering how do you guys come up with this it was very interesting.
If you guys have any spare time come check me out at https://kpsbraxtonleer.blogspot.com/ but until then bye.

ReplyDeleteKi ora team Moana,My name is Chrystalle and I am from Tautoro school primary.I liked reading how you get to use carbon dioxide its very inspiring,I love how you got proof to show that its real,I hope one day our class can do this experience. nga mihi Chrytsalle
ReplyDeleteKia ora,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Yvette im from Tautoro School. Heads up your guys work is really cool. I really wish that our class could do something similar to this. Hope you can check out my blog here's the link... https://tsyvettew.blogspot.com/ blog you later!
Hi Team Moana
ReplyDeleteYou have been working really hard in science I liked the experiment you completed. I am really impressed that you learnt the acronym MRS GREN I learnt about MRS GREN when I did biology at college.
Keep up the good work.

Kia ora team Moana my name is Ngapua and I go to Kawakawa primary school. I really liked reading how you get to use carbon dioxide its very inspiring,I love how you got proof to show that its real,I hope one day our class can do this experience. I hope you can figure out why there´s only bubbles on one half of the leaf.
